Find deals by browsing slickdeals.

One of the best places to find online deals are deal sites such as Slickdeals.net. The site has a large online community that seeks out and posts the best deals around the web. They also have a coupon section and a deal discussion forum. You can search the forums for a specific item or you can just browse the headlines. Slickdeals lets users rate the threads so you can get an idea of how good the community thinks a deal is.

Once a deal hits the front-page (reserved for the hottest/ highest demand deals) it usually does not last long. “The slickdeals effect” is known to sell out items very quickly especially when an item is available in limited quantities.

I recommend doing a product search for any large purchase, and looking for coupons prior to buying any large item. The site has a large and diverse community so you can find deals on almost any type off product.

Sometimes checking slickdeals frequently will cost you more money than you save!

Where to find online deals: Part 2!

In a world where everything keeps going up in price there are still great deals to be had if you just know where to look.  One of my favorite websites is woot.com.   The site puts out 1 deal every day starting at 1am est. The item remains there until it is sold out or when the next product is put up at 1am the next day.

There is almost nothing out of the realm of possibility on woot, as they offer a great range of products.  Many times they have factory refurbs, overstocks, or older models.  But they do offer new products at times that have yet to hit the market.

The best part about woot would have to be the humorous product descriptions.  In a world of trying to gloss over product weaknesses and sell the consumer anything, woot has chosen a different path.  The descriptions are always funny and sometimes go as far as making fun of the product weaknesses.  Even when I am not interested in the product I take the time to read the description to get a good laugh.

Once a moth woot offers a “woot off” which rolls out a new product as soon as the last product sells out.  The site gets pretty crazy during these woot offs and woot usually will offer something that will eventually crash the server with orders.  Usually a “random bag of crap” where for a dollar they will send you an item they deem as crap.

Woot claims to have no customer service, however it is toted as being excellent by most people in the online community.  They have recently  started selling 1  product on the Yahoo shopping homepage (they offer a new product once the old one sells out).  Woot also operates t-shirt woot and wine woot as well.

I have gotten a ton of great deals from woot including: I Robot Roomba, I Robot Scubas, Polk Audio Speakers, Noise Cancelling headphones, media center extenders, microsoft zunes, sandisck mp3 players and many more!

Where to find online deals!

This is the first post in what will be a series of where to find online deals.

The place where I personally find the greatest number of deals is Amazon.com.  The site is great and packed with tons of items.  the greatest thing about the site is that in many states there is no tax.  Typically most items over $25 ship for free with super saver shipping which amounts to the speed of parcel post.

Amazon is always packed full of new items at great prices but sometimes they run some crazy specials that can not be beat!  They have a “deal of the day” that is usually very good, they also have deals in the different subcategories almost every day.  Recently they have started doing “Gold Box Deals” on weekdays.  This amounts to a certain product being highly discounted and sold in a limited quantity for a short period of time.

Not only are they a source for new products but they also have a wide array of hard to find second hand items.  They have the largest selection of books anywhere and they have a wide variety of used video games and systems as well.

If you haven’t been to Amazon check it out!  You won’t be disappointed with what you find.  Try a search for anything in the search box, there’s a good chance that they’ll have it….and cheap.

I appreciate feedback or suggestions for future posts.

Ten tips for yard sale shopping success

Ten tips for yard sale success:

  1. Be early! If you are there first one there you won’t miss anything.
  2. Don’t be a slave to marked prices. Make an offer! Most people having yard sales want to get rid of everything. If you make a reasonable offer they will most likely accept it.
  3. Don’t waste your time. When you stumble upon a yard sale where everything is extremely overpriced (and you will) move on to the next sale. Now and then you will run into people who think their second hand items are worth as much as they bought it for 10 years ago!
  4. One man’s trash is another’s treasure! Be sure you look at box lots and free items. You never know what you might find.
  5. Make a list in advance and decide what you are willing to pay. Making a list will help you remember all the items you are looking for and the price will keep you from overpaying.
  6. Be organized! If you are going to a community yard sale check to see if there are other yard sales in the area. Mapquest directions and print them up to keep you from missing the yard sales you are looking for.
  7. Try to make it to Friday and Sunday yard sales. We all know the most popular day for yard sales is Saturday but you can often find better deals by going on other days. Like arriving early, going on Friday will allow you to see a better selection. By the middle of the day on Sunday you can find great deals! Anyone who has ever had a yard sale knows that by this point you just want everything to be gone.
  8. Even when things are priced okay make an offer! If you see a lot of things you want to buy that are all priced fairly ask for a quantity discount. If things are $1 ask for 6 for 5, if they are $2 ask for 3 for $5….etc.
  9. Leave a phone number! If you see a pricey item that you really want make an offer. If they do not accept it, tell them to call if they change their minds! You’ll be amazed at how many items you can pick up at great prices this way. Remember even though you may really want an item that they really want to get rid of it! If they where in love with the item it wouldn’t be at the yard sale.
  10. Be friendly! People will be much more likely to accept offers from someone they like!
